Greetings!
 Happy Memorial Day!
This time of year always feels like a time of a fresh beginnings, looking forward to the promise of summer and what we hope will be easy and glorious days ahead. That is certainly my wish for you, and for your animals.
It is in this spirit that I want to recognize the American Humane's upcoming Adopt-A-Cat Month® by offering my services to cats for the discounted price of $40 during the month of June, 2009. Consultations can explore virtually any topic, and are not restricted to adoptive cats. This special month-long promotion is underwritten by Casey's Legacy.
I hope to meet many more of you in the months to come. Keep in mind that I will do barn visits for two or more horses!
Wishing you many June blessings.

Forever Faithful: Dogs That Return
by Jenny Smedley
|
In Forever Faithful: Dogs That Return, author Jenny Smedley achieves something that many people would think to be impossible: she presents convincing evidence that dogs (and other animals) can come back into our lives after they have died, reincarnated in the bodies of other creatures who somehow manage to find us, so that we can resume our souls' journey together.
Even the most skeptical reader will have to admit that Ms. Smedley's story of her own experience with the death and rebirth of her beloved dog is built on more than mere coincidences.
I was immediately sucked into Jenny's account of Ace, the mixed-breed black puppy who frantically escaped from a home in which she had been cruelly mistreated, on the day that her owner deliberately scalded her with steaming hot water. Of course, Jenny wasn't actually present as an observer of these events, but she intuited what happened, from Ace's perspective, and the details feel just right.
After she had been physically restored by a month of loving care by a woman named Maggie, at the local Animal Rescue Center, the scarred and still-scared puppy was ultimately adopted by Jenny and her husband, Tony, who had recently lost their sweet dog, Snoopy. It was love at first sight:
"The pup and I locked eyes, and then, with no excitement or fuss at all,
she left Maggie's side, and pulling the lead out to its full length, she
walked to me, then turned around and sat down beside me, her shoulder
against my leg. I was breathless. I felt tears welling in my eyes, and I
could see them in Maggie's too. 'Well,' I said, smiling, 'that seems to be that.'"
They called the puppy, "Ace," and, because of the way in which she had instantly bonded with Jenny, they had to wonder whether Ace might actually be Snoopy. Whether that was true or not, Ace had a nobility of spirit and a way of connecting with people that made Jenny realize that she was truly an "advanced soul." She literally saved Jenny's life when an out-of-control ram was about to gorge her with his horns, and she miraculously survived a bout with a malignant mammary tumor, in spite of the veterinarian's dire prognosis.
When, after 15 years, Ace's body gave out, and her quality of life deteriorated, Jenny forced herself to make the decision we all dread: to gently cause Ace to leave her physical body with the help of an injection. Jenny was inconsolable for weeks thereafter:
"Some dogs are such a great part of our lives that their demise drops us
into despair. I just didn't know how to cope with my loss. She'd been my
best friend, an animal soul mate, and I couldn't face life without her. I felt
guilty. I felt as though I had killed my darling Puppy, even though I knew
that given a real choice I wold never have taken that decision."
Some months later, Jenny and Tony went to Sedona, Arizona, where, on September 13th of that year, Jenny had a consultation with a clairvoyant named Claudia Coronado, who told her that she had a message from "your dog," describing a big black dog with white whiskers. Ace!
Claudia calmly told Jenny that the black dog wanted her to know that "you two are united through all time and space." And, stressing the importance of what she was about to share, Claudia relayed Ace's main message: "Today I am young again."
Jenny didn't immediately appreciate the significance of her dog's words until many weeks later, when she found an ad in the paper for some Lab/Springer Spaniel puppies who had been born on a nearby farm. With no particular sense of urgency or mission, Jenny decided to call to ask about the puppies, but she was stunned to learn that they had been born on September 13th. She knew then that she had to meet them.
When Jenny and Tony arrived, six of the seven puppies were wriggling and writhing and whining and rough-housing. But one was decidedly different:
"One puppy didn't do any of that. She sat, poised and elegant, to one
side, quietly aloof and waiting for the melee to clear. When things
calmed down, the farmer opened the french doors onto the garden and
the swarm of pups shot outside like a black and white tide, for a play,
but this one coal black puppy didn't follow them. She finally got up and
walked over to me. We regarded each other. She was extremely quiet
for a puppy. No jumping, no squeaking, just a calm regard. She clambered
onto my knees and settled herself there. She gazed up into my face,
making complete and unabashed eye contact. Tony crouched down
beside me and she casually flicked a paw onto his arm, as if to say, 'Hi,
I've been waiting for you,' looking directly into his eyes just as easily as
she had mine."
Jenny thought the puppy's demeanor was remarkable, but it wasn't until the little dog rolled over on her back that she knew for sure what her heart had been trying to tell her. This puppy was missing a nipple, and it was the same one that Ace had lost when she'd had her mammary tumor excised. There could now be no doubt. Ace had returned.
The new puppy, named "KC," has taught Jenny that reincarnated animals are both the same, and yet, distinctly different, from their previous selves, and KC has also shared many other wondrous lessons about the nature of life, death, and the way in which a spirit endures and evolves.
If you have ever experienced the magic of a dear animal's reincarnation, or if you long to be reunited with a special one whom you have lost, Forever Faithful: Dogs That Return will provide solace, consolation, understanding, and most of all, hope.

Animal Communication Tip of the Month
KEEPING TABS ON ANIMAL TELEPATHY
Can you tell when a communicator is having a long-distance conversation with an animal? In fact, sometimes you can notice a distinct change in the animal's demeanor, attitude, or behavior during the moments when he's deep in a telepathic connection.
I hear this all the time, from my human clients, after a consultation. Just recently, for example, I had the pleasure of communicating with a most remarkable cat, Sukie, whose person, Sarah, was just curious about what he was thinking. This cat really made me smile: I knew that I had made a strong energetic connection because some of the information he shared was extremely vivid, and his personality really shone through. He mentioned that Sarah was a writer, and expressed his wish that she would write a story about him, too. I later learned that Sarah is writing a book, and that she actually had written a book about Sukie just a few years ago.
What really fascinated me was that Sarah correctly guessed the precise moment that I had commenced my telepathic connection with Sukie. But how did she know that? Without having the slightest idea of what time I had scheduled my "talk" with Sukie, Sarah said that around 4:30pm that day, Sukie suddenly stood up and acted like he was hearing something that she could not hear. And sure enough, my notes confirmed that Sukie's session had begun just after 4:25pm!
On another occasion, a few years ago, I had a remarkable affirmation of my connection with a very special Shih Tzu named Ricky. It is one that I will never forget.
Ricky's person, Donald, had asked me to communicate with Ricky at a time when Ricky's health was rapidly declining. In spite of his physical challenges, however, Ricky's spirit remained strong and clear and his senses retained their absolute clarity. In the middle of our session, Ricky suddenly showed me a picture of a jasmine-filled garden, letting me know how much he enjoyed the intoxicating scent of the alluring plants.
When I shared Ricky's jasmine visions with Donald the next day, he became extremely emotional, explaining that during the entire time that I had been communicating with Ricky the previous evening, they had been relaxing together in a room filled with fragrant jasmine plants! We both felt that something magical had happened, and marveled at Ricky's ability to convey what was on his mind in a way that would make it impossible for him to be misunderstood.

A Word of Thanks From an Appreciative Client
Bull is a classy Appaloosa gelding who has a lot of talent, but the ghosts of his past were getting in the way of his ability to show it.
He was initially extremely reticent about communicating with me, but when we finally connected, the results were truly eye-opening. Bull shared what was bothering him, and I was able to work with his person, Heather, to formulate some recommendations that would help him to progress, both physically and emotionally.
When I recently conducted a followup session with Bull, he seemed to be a completely different horse, clearly reflecting the potency of Heather's heartfelt care, sensitivity, and devotion to his needs. He's moving forward nicely now, and Heather wrote to say:
"All I can say is: WOW!
Your session with Bull gave me evidence of the breakthrough I was looking for. After trying things that just weren't working, I found this to be the ticket to finally hearing what Bull had to say and working with that to get on track to the best relationship possible.
I don't think we would have achieved this sort of progress without you!"

Last Issue's Survey Results Do Your Animals Mirror Your Health or Emotions?

For the first time in the more than two years that I've been running this survey, I seem to have raised a question that animal lovers were either unwilling or unable to answer.
The idea that an animal can mirror our state of mind, and even our physical health, may take some getting used to. So I think that the relative lack of response to this query is interesting in and of itself.
The one person who did participate said that she had noticed that her animals seemed to reflect the same feelings that she was having, and that they had suffered from health problems that were similar to conditions that she'd experienced.
She wasn't sure why that happened, suggesting that it might reflect a mutual sympathy between a person and his or her animal companion.
But then she raised a terrific question:
"How do I know if my animal is taking on my problem or
I am taking on his?"
You may never know for sure, but I'd like to share the perspective of Jenny Smedley, author of this month's review selection, Forever Faithful: Dogs That Return, as excerpted from her book:
"Dogs share their owner's energy. Have you ever noticed that when
you feel edgy or nervous, without giving any outward sign of it, your
dog does too? If you're feeling tearful, your dog will try and cheer you
up, bringing you his favorite toy, or will snuggle down beside you, giving
you the comfort of his body close to yours. If you're feeling happy your
dog will get excited and playful, his teeth bared in a goofy grin. You can't
hide your emotions from your dog in the same way that you can with
people. Every day with your dog can become a doorway to understanding
yourself."

As always, the results will be shared in a forthcoming issue.
Has the Recession Affected Your Animals?
This is a difficult subject, but one that we're all dealing with right now.
Have you had to change the way you care for your animals because of the current economic climate?
Perhaps you've changed the brand you feed, or postponed a routine veterinary checkup?
Or you put off a decision to adopt another animal?
Of maybe you have taken in one or more animals from a friend or relative who could no longer afford to feed them?
Whatever you have done, and however you and your animals may have been affected, I'd love to hear about it. I know that there are many heroic people who are sacrificing their own personal needs to ensure that their animals' needs are met.
Please share your very personal stories and go to our survey by clicking on the link below. I'll be reprinting a sampling of them in next month's issue!

The Animal Communication Book Club
Read My Interview with British Author Jenny Smedley
Author of Forever Faithful: Dogs That Return
British author Jenny Smedley is a celebrated writer, animal intuitive, past life consultant and angel communicator. She has written at least 10 books, including, most recently: Forever Faithful: Dogs That Return and Pets Have Souls Too.
Ms. Smedley is pictured here with her beloved Ace, who was reincarnated into her current canine companion, KC. Their story is told in Forever Faithful (reviewed above).
Maureen: How can we attune ourselves to have an open heart, and an open mind, so that we will recognize opportunities to be reunited with our animal companions in new bodies? And how will we know for sure that it's really the same animal, when we meet him or her? Jenny: I think this kind of spiritual openness comes naturally when you develop in any area of spirituality, and there are many paths that lead you there. The very first thing I would do is to learn to meditate - because this is the key to an open mind. You can do it alone, or with the aid of a CD, or in a class of like-minded people - whichever suits you best. Then practice as much as possible. On top of that, read books that you're drawn to, whether they be about angels or past lives - whatever draws you. Play with crystals and possibly divination cards - anything that gets your spiritual side thinking and moving. If you do get a sign or a message, put skepticism aside, and see where it leads you.
Maureen: How can we better develop our capacity to communicate with and enhance our ability to be energetically in tune with animals we know, and even those whom we don't know? Jenny: By recognizing that energy travels between us and our pets, and that we can't hide our mood from our pets like we can with people.
Start by trying a bit of telepathy. Be in another room from your pet and mentally call them to you. You'll know when it's working, because obviously they'll come. Then mentally ask your pet what they'd like to do and see if they send you an image of it. If you don't know an animal, just sit quietly without looking at them or speaking to them, and project a very calm mood. If they adopt the same mood and perhaps come closer and sit or nuzzle you quietly, you'll know they have accepted your energy.
Maureen: How can we help our animals by working on ourselves? Jenny: Use your pet as a barometer. Observe their behaviour and then look inside yourself. Deep within, where perhaps even you couldn't see them, you'll find your inner feelings. Most of us, most of the time are like a swan, all serene on top but paddling like mad underneath. So, for instance if your pet is being hyper-active and apparently 'naughty', try calming yourself, slow your breathing and physically relax. After a few minutes you'll find your pet is resting quietly. This is always the right energy to project, so work on it. |

What's Up With Your Animals? |
There are so many ways to communicate with animals, as these stories attest. Animals are natural telepathic communicators, and it's because they're so good at it that I can "hear" them. If you think that you and your animal would benefit from a telepathic consultation, please drop me a note or give me a call.
Until Next Time! Maureen Harmonay |
